Visual Arts
Art and Art History are taught to all students in grades K-6 and are available as an
elective for students in grades 7-12. UCA Maintains an Art Room where students
are free to work on projects as varied as rudimentary coloring and painting on the
Lower School level to sculpture in the Upper School. A wide variety of artistic skills
and techniques are taught to interested students with ample opportunities for self-
expression and experimentation. Two formal Art Shows are held each year that
allow students to display their work for the public to see.
Winter Art Show 2011
The 2011 winter art show under the direction of Alyssa DeLaBruere was called Art of Dreams. Her students studied Aboriginal
Art of Australia, Fathers of Impressionism Monet and Renoir an Fauvism & Post Impressionism: Cezanne, Dufy, Matisse,
Rousseau.
Projects included:
- K/1: Stamp art paintings of native animals, Watercolor family albums, and Rousseau jungle tissue collage
- 2/3: Bark painting symbol art(in pastel), Reflective landscape compositions, and Matisse paper cut compositions
- 4: Aboriginal constellation paintings, Interpretations of Monet’s gardens, and Cezanne inspired 3-D still life
- 5: Australian animal sculptures, Renoir “esque” and pastel self portraits
- 6: Christian theme symbol paintings, Impression sunsets and raou; Dufy textile art inspired collage.
- High School: Impressions of aboriginal face painting, Impression , Tribute to Renoir's “Luncheon of the Boating Party”,
Through the window multimedia collage, Matisse “simple-line” self portrait prints and Mood portrait pastels.
The students painted "schools of fish” which were auctioned off at the Annual Benefit Dinner and Auction.
