On Saturday, March 16, nine students from United Christian Academy participated in the Regional One Act Festival in St. Johnsbury co-sponsored by the Vermont Principals’ Association and the Vermont Drama Council. Five regional festivals take place in March, followed by a State Festival in April. The day long festival in St. Johnsbury included productions from five Vermont schools: Essex High School, Leland and Gray, Williamstown, St. Johnsbury Academy, and United Christian Academy. Under the direction of drama instructor, Meredith Gaines, UCA presented a play titled, Mustardseed, a comedy by Doug Cooney, which follows four fairies backstage during a production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The cast was awarded a Certificate of Merit for “Expression of Comedy” and individual Acting Awards were presented to Madeline Lippmann and Madeline Strepka. Madeline Lippmann was also selected to the All-Star Cast, which is invited to work with a professional director to present an original show on Friday night of the State Festival on April 5 in Essex.
